Hall Bathroom Remodel

It’s been two years since we moved into our current home. Like many families, we were house-hunting during the pandemic when the market was at its peak craziness. Instead of grossly overbidding for a home that would have been well within our price range prior to the pandemic, we decided to select homes that were underneath our budget, and move-in ready but needed a few updates.

During the first year, we did some simple projects such as painting and changing outdated light fixtures. A post about those projects will be coming soon.

This year, we decided to update the hall bathroom and the floor in the powder room. And, I love the results.

For both bathrooms, I knew I wanted neutral flooring that could pair with various decor styles. I also knew I wanted lighter flooring because both bathrooms lack windows.

Here is the kid’s hall bathroom before the update. Pretty builder-grade basic.

We gutted everything except the tub/shower combo and the medicine cabinet. We may change the tub/shower combo in the future and put in tile, but for now, the focus was on the flooring, vanity, and fixtures.

Since this is also the bathroom guests will use, I went with a neutral design that didn’t scream “Kid’s Bathroom”. I also wanted this to be a space that will grow with my children as they get older.

Though grey and white and matte black fixtures are trendy, I feel that the selections are tasteful and timeless.

When I picked the vanity, I was looking for something with storage. We all know how important storage is especially with kids when you’re trying to keep things organized. I was also looking for a vanity with an offset sink so that there was more room on the counter.

This vanity by First Impressions is amazing. It checked all the boxes I was looking for. The construction is solid! It also comes with the countertop and sink already installed. The only thing missing was a backsplash. But I was able to find one that matches the countertop. It’s not pictured because, like many things post-Covid, it is on backorder.

Originally, I was nervous about getting the vanity because I was unfamiliar with the company. I did some research online but couldn’t find anything. I decided to take the plunge and go for it, and I’m glad I did. I purchased it online through Lowes when it was on sale. I did notice that this same vanity was also sold on Wayfair but under a different name and company.

The brushed nickel faucet is by Delta. I chose this one because not only is it nice looking, it has the pulldown spray wand which is a game changer for rinsing the sink especially when helping my messy two-year-old brush his teeth. And, it also has spot-shield technology that claims to help keep the fixture by resisting fingerprints. We’ve had it for three months now, and so far, I have noticed limited fingerprints and watermarks.

For the floors, I chose these 12×24 Matte Porcelain tiles from Satori, and they are beautiful. They really brightened and elevated the space. We used 1/8 tile spacers with a warm gray grout to get the look we wanted.

The Powder Room

Initially, I planned to do a full post on the Powder Room; Instead, I’m adding it to this post because we only changed the floor and toilet. The vanity had already been updated.

Eventually, I want to change the paint color, but I can’t decide on a color. Errr. If you have suggestions, let me know.

I knew the flooring I wanted. And because we were already doing the floor in the kid’s bathroom, it made sense to work on the powder room and remove the old toilet and gross laminate flooring (we found mold underneath) instead of waiting until I picked a paint color.

Below is a picture of the new tile flooring that we put in. The hexagon tile also by Satori is stunning. The pattern matches the 12×24 tile used in the kid’s bathroom.

Both bathrooms make me happy each time I see them 🙂

We also updated the toilets in both bathrooms with modern, water-efficient models. For the baseboards, we used PVC instead of wood.

All of the items I used in the kid’s bathroom are linked below! Happy renovating.
